Neva Marie Theede, 89, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at the Heritage House in Atlantic.
Neva was born October 5, 1921, in Exira, Iowa, to Sophus and Anna (Denison) Jensen. She grew up in Exira and attended Exira community schools graduating from Exira High School in 1939. After graduation she moved to Atlantic, Iowa and began working at a bakery and later at the gas company. She was united in marriage to Charles C. Theede on March 29, 1944 on the family farm in Exira. Iowa. Three children were born to this union, Barbara, Gregory and Beverly. During her married years, Neva and Charles farmed in the Atlantic area and purchased their family farm in rural Lewis, Iowa in 1964. She remained on the farm as a homemaker and helping her husband with the farm until he passed away in 1977. She moved to Atlantic in 1979 and began working at Heritage House as a receptionist until her retirement in 1986.
Neva was very proud of her Danish heritage. She was a volunteer at the Danish Immigrant Museum in Elk Horn, Iowa. She was a life long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic where she was an active member of the church belonging to the Over 60 Club and many circle groups. She also belonged to the Heritage House Guild during her retirement years. Neva was an avid bridge and card player belonging to several card groups. She loved to play golf, which started after Charles died. She had an eagle at Nishna Hills Golf Club when she was over the age of 80. Neva enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving Neva are her children, Barbara (Raymond) Rehmeier of Henderson, NV; Gregory (Jennifer) Theede of rural Lewis, Iowa; Beverly (Duane) Dirks of Grundy Center, Iowa; her grandchildren, Amy (William) Gamble, Andrew Theede, Aaron (Erin) Theede, Adam Theede, Jason Kleen, Trenton Dirks, Shelby Dirks; eight great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Charles; her son-in-law Edwin Kleen; her sisters, Ramona Jensen and Virginia (Bob) Hamlin; her brothers, Gordon (Arlene) Jensen, Virgil (Mary) Jensen, Hubert (Pearl) Jensen, and her sisters-in-law, Marilyn Jensen and Leona Jensen.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m., Friday, October 8, 2010, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Visitation with family will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
