Nicholas "Joe Dirt" Baier

Nicholas Herman Baier, 23, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012, from a single truck accident south of Wiota, Iowa.

Nic was born December 16, 1988, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Kevin and Martha (Fiebelkorn) Baier. He attended community schools in Atlantic graduating from Atlantic High School with the class of 2007.

Nic joined Boy Scout Troop 54 in 1994. Before attaining the rank of Eagle Scout in 2006, Nic attended two council wide Jubilees, three High Adventure outings and numerous Council Summer Camps. This was important to Nic to achieve the highest rank in Scouts, which is Eagle.

Nic was employed at Atlantic Bottling, starting there in the summer of 2006 as a fork lift operator and loading trucks.

Nic's passion for outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and camping were only rivaled by his interest in mudding, stock car racing and horseshoes. He looked forward to ending the week by having supper at Mom and Dad's. It gave him time to relax, share stories, play games and decide about the next week's activities.

Surviving Nic are his parents, Kevin and Martha Baier of Atlantic, Iowa; his brothers, Zac and Trent Baier of Atlantic; grandparents, George and Ada Fiebelkorn of Exira, IA; his aunts and uncles, Rick Fiebelkorn of Elmore, MN, Pat Fiebelkorn of Burnsville, MN, Deb (Ron) Hensel of Atlantic, Kim (Bruce Reha) Fiebelkorn of Waukee, IA, Randy (Brandy) Fiebelkorn of Exira, IA, JoAnn (Roger) Hansen, Judy Baier, Gary (Bernice) Baier, Lauri (Robert) Sampson all of Atlantic and Judy (Harvey) Williamson of Anita, IA; as well as numerous cousins and countless friends.

Nic was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Erma Baier, Opal and John Geagham, John Schroeder, Walt Fiebelkorn and Evelyn Fischer; his uncles and aunts, Butch Fiebelkorn, Vivian Clifford, Rick Baier, Junior Baier, Larry Baier and Danny Baier.

A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 13, 2012, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.

Interment will be held in the Atlantic Cemetery following the funeral service.
