Norma Etta Eilts, 85, of Cumberland, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at her home in Cumberland, Iowa.
She was born September 19, 1926, southwest of Cumberland, Iowa, on the farm, to Leonard and Minnie (Dooley) Moore. She attended schools in Cumberland, graduating from Cumberland High School with the class of 1944. Norma went on to college at the Commercial Extension in Omaha, Nebraska, and upon graduation went to work for Sears & Roebuck in Atlantic, Iowa, until she was married. On February 20, 1949, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Lawrence Eilts, at the Cumberland Christian Church in Cumberland. They made their home on a farm southeast of Wiota, Iowa, for 6 years and later moved to their present farm in 1955, located north and east of Cumberland. They have celebrated 57 years together on their present farm. To this 63 year union they were blessed with three children, David Warren, Pansie Lavonne and Duane Harold. They farmed all their life on the family farm.
Norma was a lifelong member of the Cumberland Christian Church and later the union of the Trinity Christian Church was formed. She was active in the Ladies Aid Society. During her school age years, she started playing the piano for church and continued through her life until she was unable and had to retire her services.
Her daily life involved helping on the farm from plowing, discing, harrowing, milking cows, to feeding the livestock. Norma was always able to squeeze in gardening and canning while taking care of her children and her grandchildren. One of her favorite pastimes was doing sewing, along with embroidery and knitting.
Norma is survived by her husband, Lawrence Eilts of Cumberland, IA; her children, David Eilts (deceased) and wife, Laurie of Norwalk, IA and their children, Rachel Harban of New Virginia, IA, Paul Eilts of Ames, IA and Katherine Eilts of Norwalk, IA, Pansie and husband, Richard Hoffman and their children, Sylvia and Trenda all of Cumberland, IA and Duane Eilts and wife, Diane of Massena, IA and their children, Misty Scybert and her children, Laurana, Crysania and Palin all of Harlan, IA, Brian of Cumberland, IA, and Craig of Griswold, IA; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, David Eilts; her parents, Leonard and Minnie Moore; her brothers, Leonard Marcella Moore and Charles Warren Moore and his wife, Ruth.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, September 2, 2012, at the Trinity Christian Church in Bridgewater, IA.
Interment will be held in the Massena Township Cemetery.
