Norma Kay Anthofer

Norma Kay Anthofer, the daughter of John P. and Theresia (Klingseis) Liewer, was born October 9, 1921, at her parents’ home near Willey, Iowa and died September 15, 2012, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 6 days. Norma was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey, Iowa. She attended St. Mary’s Parochial School then helped at home and also worked for other people. On May 1, 1946, she was united in marriage to Rudolph (Rudy) Louis Anthofer, Sr. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey by Rev. H.J. Drees. Three sons Rudy Jr., Cletus, and Larry were born to this union. They lived on and operated Rudy’s family farm in northeast Audubon County where they grew grain and raised livestock. In 1952 they moved to their present farm in Cameron Township, Audubon County. While living on the farm, Norma helped Rudy farm, was a homemaker, and raised chickens. She always had a large garden and enjoyed marketing her eggs and produce to her friends and neighbors. Later they retired from farming but continued to live on the farm. Rudy died on January 11, 2004. Norma has continued to live on the farm where she enjoyed caring for her lawn and tending to her flowers and gardens. Norma was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham, Iowa and was a member of the Ladies Guild. She was a charter member of the DeWitt Loustaunau American Legion Post No. 20, Dedham, Iowa Auxiliary. She also enjoyed making quilts for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Norma was preceded in death by her husband Rudolph (Rudy) L. Anthofer, Sr.; her grandson David Anthofer; her parents; her brothers and sisters Leona and Clem Tigges, John Liewer, Laura and Al Habiger, Arnold and Berniece Liewer, Annie and Charles Weitl, Marie and Jules Venteicher, Norbert and Marie Liewer, Tony Liewer, Dorothy and Alois Irlbeck, and Frank and Helen Liewer; brother-in-law Edward Anthofer; and her sister-in-law Thelma Anthofer. Survivors include her sons Rudy Jr. and Donna Anthofer, Cletus and Patricia Anthofer, and Larry and Lora Anthofer all of Audubon, Iowa; her grandchildren Mike and Kindra Anthofer of Exira, Iowa, Steve and Christie Anthofer of Carroll, Iowa, Mary and Zach Brandt of Prescott, Iowa, Janet and Scott Pattee of Ankeny, Iowa, Kathy Anthofer of Des Moines, Iowa, Russell and Sarah Anthofer of Altoona, Iowa, Alan and Shannon Anthofer of Hookstown, Pennsylvania, Teresa Anthofer and her fiancé Jeffrey Monday both of Tucson, Arizona, and Sgt. Matthew Anthofer serving in Germany; her great grandchildren Haillie, Chloe, and Jacey Anthofer, John, Addy, and Millie Anthofer, Jake Brandt, Eleanor and Charlotte Pattee, Rachel and Luke Anthofer and Marissa and James Anthofer; her step granddaughter Skylar Pattee; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Tony and Phyllis Anthofer of Carroll, Iowa and Rose Thielen of Granger, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Dedham, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Tuesday with a rosary at 4:00 P.M. and a scripture service at 7:30 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Service:
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at 10:30 A.M at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham, Iowa.
