Norman Henriksen

August 16, 1926 — February 21, 2013

Norman LeRoy Henriksen, 86, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.

He was born August 16, 1926, to Clarence and Martha (Jensen) Henriksen near Audubon, Iowa. He attended rural schools and graduated from Audubon High School. Norman went to Iowa State College for two years receiving a farm operations degree before going into the United States Army. He served from October 1950 to October 1952 during the Korean Conflict.

After his two years in the Army, he came home and began farming and cattle feeding north of Audubon. On September 13, 1953, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Marie Schwartz at the Presbyterian Church in Atlantic. He and Dorothy stayed on that farm until 1965 at which time they bought a new farm north of Atlantic. In 1990 they moved from the farm to Atlantic.

Norman was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa. He also belonged to Farm Bureau since 1946. He was a member of many other organizations including the Lions Club since 1974 having served as president, the Friends of the Danish Immigrant Museum in Elk Horn, the Cass County Beef Producers, the VFW, and was a past member of the Cass County Pork Producers.

Norman had a lifelong interest in soil conservation, building terraces, and practicing soil management when he farmed.
He enjoyed his grandchildren, his family, traveling, photography and playing pinochle.

Norman is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Atlantic, Iowa; his children, Mary Jo Henriksen and husband, Alan Hanson of Omaha, NE, Jon Lee Henriksen of Minneapolis, MN and Marcia Lu Buboltz and husband, Dave of Lewis, IA; his grandchildren, Maren (Jay) Collins, Kirstine (Billie) Fitzgerald, Jeremy Hanson, Michelle and Aaron Buboltz; his great-granddaughter, Violet Collins; great-grandson, Rowan Fitzgerald; his brother, Dale Henriksen of Audubon, IA; his sisters, Ardyth (Marvin) Laursen of Muscatine, IA and Marilyn Hash of Brigham City, UT; brother-in-law, Wayne Olsen of Atlantic, IA; sister-in-law, Pat Schwartz of Atlantic, IA; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding Norman in death were his parents, Clarence and Martha Henriksen; his sister, Phyllis Olsen; his brothers-in-law, Lisle Hash and Robert Schwartz; and his sister-in-law, Ruth Henriksen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa.

Visitation with family present will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2013, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA.

Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic.
