Olive Marie Petersen, the daughter of George Lee and Katherine Margaret Killen Wulf, was born April 7, 1914, at her parents home south of Exira, Iowa and died December 2, 2009 at the Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan, Iowa at the age of 95 years, 7 months, and 25 days.
Olive was baptized and confirmed at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Exira. She attended rural school Green Country School south of Exira and then attended Exira High School. Olive helped care for her mother and younger siblings for several years.
On September 28, 1936 she was united in marriage to Emborg Petersen by Pastor Marinus C. Hagedorn at the Danish Parish in Audubon, Iowa. They moved to Harlan, Iowa. Olive was employed as a maid at the Saylor Hotel. She worked at the hotel for over 39 years before retiring in 1981. Emborg died April 6, 1985. Olive cared for their home then moved to an apartment in Harlan. After living in apartments for several years, Olive moved to the Elm Crest Retirement Community.
Olive grew all types of plants both indoor plants and outdoor plants around her home. She enjoyed playing scrabble, cards, word games, and putting puzzles together.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband Emborg, were her brothers and sisters: Raymond Wulf, Arnold Wulf, Ruth Mattie Rasmussen, Rose Carolyn and husband John Palm, Margaret Edna and husband Louis Hill, and Kathryn Gertrude and husband Leo Olsen; her nephews: Carroll George Basham and Ronald Earl Wulf.
Survivors include her sister-in-law: Mary Ann Wulf of Exira; her nieces and nephews: Ruth and husband Guy Barton of Brayton, IA; Joel and wife Gwen Basham and Larry and wife Judy Hill all of Exira, Richard Wulf of San Antonio, TX; Gertrude (Trudi) Crosby of Omaha, NE; Roger Wulf of San Marcos, TX; Judy Payne of Houston, TX; Jane and husband Larry Jessen of Exira; David and wife Pat Olsen of Rio Ranchos, NM; John Rodney and wife Sandee Palm of Idaho Falls, ID; Kathy and husband Gayle Uebelhor of Evansville, IN; Mary and husband Don Greving and Beth and husband Frank Olsen all of Exira; many great nieces and great nephews and great great nieces and great great nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Saturday afternoon at 1:00 until time of service at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.
Service:
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.
