Orra Glenn Fancher, the son of Orra William and Minnie Buckner Fancher, was born July 1, 1918, at his parents home in Cameron Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died March 9, 2009, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 8 months, and 8 days.
Glenn was baptized and confirmed at Eden Valley Church in Cameron Township. He attended rural school at Cameron Center. Glenn then helped operate the family farm with his father and brother.
On January 27, 1944, he was united in marriage to Mildred Lavaun Somers at the First Presbyterian Church Parsonage in Audubon, Iowa by Pastor Gordon Zimmerman. Three children were born to this union, Marilyn, Donna, and Gary. Glenn continued to farm with his father and brother. He later purchased land in Cameron Township in Section 22. Glenn operated a grain and livestock farm. He retired from full-time farming and Glenn and Lavaun moved into Audubon, Iowa in 1994. Glenn continued to help his son Gary farm as long as he was able. Glenn moved to the Exira Care Center in March 2006.
Glenn has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1935 and was a trustee for several years. He was a member of the Audubon County Fair Board for many years and served as President. Glenn enjoyed playing the banjo and played music with his brother Jesse and later with the Country Heirs. Glenn enjoyed bowling, but most of all he enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their many activities.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister Olive and husband Dale Westphalen; his brother Jesse Fancher; his brother-in-law Harold and wives Eva and Florence Somers.
Survivors include his wife Lavaun Fancher of Audubon, IA; his children: Marilyn and Danny Rubel of Stanton, IA; Donna and David Borst of St. Petersburg, FL; Gary and Joan Fancher of Audubon; his grandchildren: Marla and Mickey Anderson of Stanton; Danis and Bret Hultman of Red Oak, IA; Brooke and Jerod Burns of Kellogg, IA; Justin and Katy Fancher of Grimes, IA; his great-grandchildren: Ragen Anderson and Reece Anderson, both of Stanton; Connor Hultman and Easton Hultman, both of Red Oak; Beau Burns of Kellogg; Brock Fancher of Grimes; his sister: Violet and husband Virgil Clemsen of Audubon; his sister-in-law Minnie Toots Fancher of Brookings, Oregon.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.
Visitation:
The family will meet friends Friday evening at 7:00 at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Kay E. Steddom on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon.
