Orville Tibben

Orville F. Tibben, 84, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2008, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.

Orville Fredrick Tibben was born on July 29, 1923, in Audubon County, Iowa, the son of John (Fred) Fredrick and Clara Wilhelmina (Hocamp) Tibben.

He was baptized at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Guthrie County, Iowa, on August 26, 1923, and confirmed there on August 10, 1938. He attended rural school #2 east of Exira. Orville was a long time member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita. He had strong faith and enjoyed reading the Bible every morning and afternoon.

Orville hired out to families as a farm laborer until the age of 21. He then served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman.

On November 25, 1950, he married Ruth Vokt at her parent's home. Together they bought a farm east of the "tree in the middle of the road", residing there for 54 years. In February of 2008 the couple retired and bought a home in Anita.

Orville and Ruth cherished their nieces and nephews as their own and loved to tease them.

Orville is survived by his wife, Ruth of Anita, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Merle Vokt and his wife, Muryl Jean of Anita, Iowa, and Gaine Stevens of Burlington, Kentucky; sisters-in-law, LaVere Vokt and her friend, Tom Viskovich of Cleveland, Ohio, and Betty Clemmensen and her husband, Lee of Audubon, Iowa; 16 nieces and nephews; Godchildren, Ronald Sorensen, Keith Vokt, Joel Tibben, Mark Huff, William Baylor and Marshall McDermott; and numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Clara Tibben; his brothers and sisters, Ruby and Wayne Stephensen, Lorene Sorensen and Floyd Sorensen, Darrell Tibben, Dallas Tibben; and sister-in-law, Myrna Stevens.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita, Iowa, with the Reverend Ted Weishaupt officiating.

Visitation will be from noon to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Anita.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, Iowa. Following the burial the family invites you to join them for a luncheon at the Anita Community Center.
