Otis Jensen

Otis Jensen, the son of Soren and Elizabeth M. Petersen Jensen, was born June 16, 1919, at his parents’ home southwest of Elk Horn near Rohrbeck, Iowa and died July 18, 2011, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 92 years, 1 month, and 2 days. Otis was baptized and confirmed at the Oak Hill Lutheran Church west of Brayton, Iowa. He attended rural school, Oakfield No. 6 west of Brayton. Otis then farmed with his father, brothers and sister. They lived on and operated several farms in the Brayton area. In 1945 Otis was inducted into the United States Army. During his tour of duty he served in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned home to farm. In 1957 the family purchased their present farm. Otis’s brother Emory lived on the farm for a short time. In 1959 Otis, Soren, Leonard, and Edna moved onto the farm. Otis helped raise the row crops, but was best known for his register short horn cattle operation. Otis retired from actively farming in 1995, but continued to run his cattle operation with the help of his neighbors Darrall Christensen and Rob Nymand, Jr. until he completely retired in 2005. Otis lived on the farm until he moved to the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in April of 2008. Otis was a member of the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton. He also was a member of the American Legion Post No. 350, Brayton, Iowa for over 60 years. Otis was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother Margaret Jensen; his brothers Leonard Jensen and Emory and wife Gladys Jensen and his sister Edna Jensen. Survivors include his half-sister Ione and husband Kenneth Brown of Watervliet, Michigan; his step-sister Sylvia Homola of Florida; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery in Elk Horn, Iowa.

Visitation:
There will be viewing Thursday morning from 11:30 A.M. until the time of the service at the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. at the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton, Iowa.
