Robert Wayne Hennick, the son of James, Jr. and Helen (Allen) Hennick, was born September 3, 1948, in Carroll, Iowa and died peacefully at his home on March 22, 2009, in rural Exira, Iowa at the age of 60 years, 6 months, and 19 days.
Bob was baptized and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. He attended rural school north of Exira, then graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1966. He attended the United Electronic Institute in Des Moines, Iowa for two years.
On May 25, 1968, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Hays at Bowman Chapel Lutheran Church in rural Guthrie County, Iowa. Two daughters Teresa and Elizabeth were born to this union. In September, 1968 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During his tour of duty he was a communication technician and saw action in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1974 and returned to Exira. Bob was employed as a technician by his father at Hennick TV and Appliance in Exira. He purchased the business from his father in 1981. Bob operated the business, later moving it to the South Carthage Street location retiring from the business in 2002.
On October 18, 1997, Bob married Linda Wilson at the Exira Lutheran Church.
Bob was always involved in the Lutheran Church activities and in the Sunday School. He was a Sunday School teacher and later served as the Sunday School Superintendent. Bob was asked to fill the pulpit one Sunday at the Exira Lutheran Church. Bob felt this was his calling and as a lay person started being a supply pastor bringing the sermon to different churches. He was a supply pastor at the Exira Christian Church and served as an interim pastor. During this time he attended Lay School of Ministry. He was asked to be the full-time pastor at the Exira Christian Church. He just recently finished his studying.
Bob loved spending time with his wife and family. He enjoyed cooking and loved to eat. He liked to sing and whistle, sit in his recliner and woodworking. He enjoyed driving the school bus and all the children. He loved nature, gardening and most of all he loved life. He was a member of Community Club, E-Club and Ballou Post No. 332, American Legion, Exira where he served as chaplain for several years.
Preceding him in death were his father James Hennick, Sr.; an infant brother Richard Hennick; an infant step-daughter Karen Wilson his brothers-in-law: Craig Waugh, Ronald Rasmussen, and Ernest Rasmussen.
Survivors include his wife Linda Hennick of Exira, IA; his daughters: Terri and Rodney Harris and Betsy and Kyle Kitelinger, all of Exira; his grandchildren: Joseph Harris, Samantha Harris, Taylor Harris; Carter Kitelinger, Hudson Kitelinger and Sophie Kitelinger, all of Exira; his step-sons: Travis Wilson and fianc Kim Redalen; Ryan and Amber Wilson, all of Exira; Nathan Wilson and fianc Jackie King of Tulsa, OK; his step-grandchildren: Garrett Wilson, Miranda Redalen, Evan Wilson, :Shelbi Wilson, Eric Wilson, Michelle Wilson; his mother Helen Hennick, all of Exira; his sisters and brother: James and Kathy Hennick of Climax, MO; Lora and John Smith of Pella, IA; Margy and Dave Hansen of Exira; Mary Waugh and friend Mike Howard of Atlantic, IA; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Myrna and Dick Kersey of Colorado Springs, CO; Lee and Mary Rasmussen of Ames, IA; Steven and DeEtta Rasmussen of Ft. Madison, IA; David Rasmussen of Severance, KS; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery.
Visitation:
The family will meet friends Tuesday evening at 6:00 at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Earlin Shanno on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the Exira Christian Church.
