Patricia Lucile Curtis

Patricia Lucile Curtis, the daughter of Wayne Wendell and Elinor Patricia (Halloran) Crouse, was born May 15, 1944, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Carroll, Iowa and died January 19, 2015, at her family home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 70 years, 8 months, and 4 days.
Patricia was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. She attended the Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1962. Patricia then received her Bachelor’s Degree in Health/Education from Kearney State Teachers College in Kearney, Nebraska. Later she attained her Master’s Degree from the University of Nebraska in Omaha, Nebraska.
On August 26, 1967, she was united in marriage to David Curtis at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Two daughters Amy and Jenny were born to this union. Patricia taught health, English, and history at McMillan Junior High School in Omaha. Patricia purchased the Stuart Mansion in 1990 and in 1991 opened the Main Street Mall in Audubon. During her summers and holidays they would commute back and forth from Omaha to Audubon to work on her businesses. Patricia retired in 1998 after teaching for over 31 years and they returned to reside in Audubon. Patricia continued to purchase buildings on Main Street to encourage businesses to return and develop that area.
Patricia was very community oriented and belonged to numerous local organizations. Her passion was to promote the growth and revitalization of the Audubon Community.
Preceding her in death was her husband David Curtis; her daughter Amy Curtis; her parents; and her sister Charlotte Maggard.
Survivors include her daughter Jenny Curtis of Audubon Iowa; her brother William Gerhard and wife Valerie Keffala of Iowa City, Iowa; her brother-in-law Al Maggard of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; her nieces Lucy Maggard and husband Ben Hersch and Ann Maggard all of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Bethany Keffala of San Diego, California; her nephews William Keffala-Gerhard and David Keffala-Gerhard both of Iowa City, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
Patricia donated her body to the Anatomical Board of Nebraska in Omaha which is associated with both the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Creighton University Medical Center. Following her return there will be a private family Celebration of Life Memorial Service at a later date. The family prefers memorials to the Patricia Curtis Bird Walk Memorial Fund established at the Audubon State Bank which will be used to enhance the John James Audubon Bird Walk.
