Patricia Louise Wessling was born September 12, 1957, the daughter of Paul Louis and Jane Marie (Broich) Wessling in Carroll, Iowa, and passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.
Patty attended Saint Joseph's Catholic School in Carroll her kindergarten and first grade years. The family then moved to Anita, Iowa, where she graduated from the Anita High School in 1975.
On March 3, 1978, she was united in marriage to Rhett South at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Anita.
She worked as a cook, waitress, and provided daycare in her home, prior to her employment for the Cumberland Community Schools as a cook.
One of Patty's favorite hobbies was cooking. She loved making homemade caramels every year at Christmas time. She was a fan of high school wrestling, never missing a meet. Rhett and Patty enjoyed motorcycle riding in their spare time.
Patty will truly be missed by her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She could not have loved them more if they had been her own children.
Patty is survived by her husband, Rhett, her parents, Paul and Jane Wessling of Anita, IA, her brothers and sisters, Cathy (Dave) Jones of Cumberland, IA, Steve (Lana) Wessling of Anita, IA, Mary ( Mike) Hosfelt of Massena, IA, Ann (Ben) Harris of Anita, IA, and Jim (Dianne) Wessling of Anita, IA; her parents-in-law, Delmar (Jo) South of Cumberland, IA; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Ryan (Carol) South of Cumberland, IA, Rhys (Barb) South of Lindon, IA, and Renee (Max) Dirks of Bonapart, IA, her grandmother-in-law, Anna Mae Lawrence; her special cousin, Tom Wessling; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents; her mother-in-law, Shirlene South; her brother-in-law, Reid South; and her nephew, John Paul Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 2, 2009, at the Cumberland Community Building in Cumberland, IA.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Cumberland, IA.
Visitation will be held from noon to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. The family will be present to greet friends following the prayer service until 8:00 p.m., at Hockenberry's in Atlantic.
The family suggests memorials to the Diabetes Association.
Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, is assisting the family with arrangements.
