Phyllis A. Hamilton, 77, a longtime Adair, Iowa, resident, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007, at the Kavanagh House in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Phyllis Alberta Hamilton was born July 25, 1929, on the family farm near Elliott, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford and Leona (Snyder) Armstrong.
She graduated from the Griswold High School in 1947, and was a 1948 graduate from the Iowa School of Beauty in Des Moines, Iowa.
On April 9, 1950, Phyllis married Donald D. Hamilton in the Central Church of Christ in Griswold, Iowa.
The couple farmed near Oakland, Iowa, and in 1957, moved to Griswold, Iowa, and then to Adair, Iowa, in 1960.
Phyllis opened her beauty salon, Phil's Beauty Box, on September 29, 1961. She retired on September 29, 2006.
She was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Griswold, Iowa, but for all her years in Adair, she faithfully attended the Adair Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Women's organization and the Over 70's Club and several other Adair women's organizations.
Phyllis was a member of the National Cosmetology Association since October 1, 1962, and had received their award for her 50 years of service.
She loved to travel and go camping and she loved her work.
Phyllis is survived by her three sons, David Hamilton and his wife, Margery of Urbandale, Iowa, Jeffery Hamilton and his wife, Estrelita, of Perris, CA, and Marc Hamilton and his wife, Mischelle of Van Meter, Iowa. Phyllis is also survived by her six grandchildren; Andrew, Jill, Jenny, Rebecca, Taylor and Devin Hamilton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Leona Armstrong; her husband Donald D. Hamilton; as well as two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2007, in the Adair Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Char Reif officiating.
Visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Adair, Iowa.
Committal services and interment will be in Sunnyhill Cemetery, Adair, followed by fellowship and lunch in the church's fellowship hall.
Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Adair is in charge of the arrangements.
