Raymond "Dude" Flathers, 61, of Lewis, Iowa, (formerly of Atlantic) passed away Monday, October 8, 2007, at his home in Lewis.

Raymond Leonard Flathers was born on May 8, 1946, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Harley and Rosemary (Stormer) Flathers.
Ray was born and raised in Atlantic and moved to Massena, Iowa, when he was 16. He graduated from Massena High School in 1964. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country from 1964-1968. He was honorably discharged after suffering an injury.

He was self-employed doing electrical work for many years. He later was employed for Skyjack and Glacier until he was injured and unable to work.

Ray was a jack of all trades and was willing to help anyone with whatever they needed. He liked to play dominos and enjoyed camping. Spending time with his family and friends was his greatest pleasure.

Ray is survived by his wife, Dixie, of Lewis; children, Shelly Meyer and her husband, Grant of Sac City, Iowa, Robyn Flathers of Templeton, Iowa, Kevin Flathers and his friend, Ashley Greteman of Carroll, Iowa, Jeremy Flathers of Ames, Iowa and Monica Flathers of Templeton, Iowa; seven grandchildren; step-children, Brandie Isley and Doug Butcher, Jr., both of West Des Moines, Iowa; 3 step-granddaughters; brothers, Ben Flathers and his friend, Nancy of Atlantic, Iowa and Myron Flathers and his wife, Tammy of Cumberland, Iowa; sisters, Carolyn Wenninghoff of Atlantic, Iowa, Lori Roberts and her friend, Gary of Atlantic, Iowa and Beth Rice and her husband Jimmy, of Oklahoma; aunts, Lottie Egan of Atlantic, Iowa, and Alice Logue and her husband, Wayne of Atlantic; uncle, Frank Stormer and his wife, Ruth of Oklahoma; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Rosemary Flathers; and sisters, Sharon Senger and Ann Duff.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 13, 2007, at the Lewis Community Center, Lewis, Iowa. The Atlantic Color Guard will honor his service in the United States Navy at 2:00 p.m.
