Raymond LeGrande Herron, the son of Maurice Wistenberg and foster mother Grace Berlin, was born August 15, 1967 in Jefferson, Iowa and died March 10, 2012, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 44 years, 6 months, and 25 days. When Ray was five years old he became a foster child to Manzel and Grace Berlin who raised him. Ray was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church outside of Massena, Iowa. He attended Cumberland-Massena School graduating with the High School Class of 1986. He then attended Creston Community College where he studied auto body repair. Ray worked various jobs for several years. In 1993, he was united in marriage to Mary (Belfiore) White in Atlantic, Iowa. One son Jon was born to this union. Ray became a carpenter for Stephen May Construction in Audubon, Iowa and worked there until the company closed. Ray worked at Midwest Homes in Carroll, Iowa for several years until it closed its doors. Then he has been working for Cross-Dillion Tires in Anita, Iowa where he was an initial tire inspector. Ray loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed working with wood. He enjoyed traveling around visiting all the different roadside parks and other interesting sites around the state. He enjoyed playing video games and playing with his dog Pepper and his McCaw Parrott Curly. Ray was preceded in death by his foster father Manzel Berlin; his brother Jim Herron; and his foster brother Bill Berlin. Survivors include his wife Mary White of Exira, Iowa; his son Jon Herron of Exira; his step children: Ejay White of Omaha, Nebraska; Eddie White and fiancée Lauranna Morrisseau of Atlantic, Iowa; his father Maurice and wife Tammy Winstenberg of Jefferson, Iowa; his mother Grace Berlin of Essex, Iowa; his uncle Ray Berlin of Essex; his sister-in-law Terri Herron of Gerard, Ohio; his half sister Wende and husband Rich Christensen of Hartley, Iowa; his foster sister and brothers and his foster nieces and nephews.
Cemetery:
Cremation will take place following the funeral service.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Tuesday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Manzel Berlin on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.
