Dean Morgan, 72, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2007, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center.
Raymond Dean Morgan was born July 31, 1934, in Elliot, Iowa, the son of Hubert and Lois (Williams) Morgan.
Dean was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Elliot, and graduated from the Elliot High School. He worked for his father for Montgomery County. He then attended Barber School in Sioux City, Iowa.
He served his country in the U.S. Army from July 1957 until June 30, 1959.
On October 30, 1960, Dean married Ellen Louise Carr in the Fletcher's Chapel Methodist Church.
In 1964, Dean and Louise moved to Atlantic where he barbered again for a period of time. He later worked for Cass County as a road maintainer, and then was a route salesman for the Wonder Bread Company for 18 years. Dean then worked for Glacier until his retirement in 1996 due to his health.
Dean liked fishing, hunting, playing cards, bowling and telling jokes. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
In Atlantic, Dean was a member of the Atlantic First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Louise of Atlantic; his two daughters, Jolene Morgan of Atlantic, IA, Janet and her husband, Dennis Cavner of Atlantic, IA; three grandchildren, Jennifer Morgan and Austin and Benjamin Cavner, all of Atlantic, IA. Also surviving is his brother, Charles Morgan of Atlantic, IA; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Nichols of Atlantic, IA, Violet Inman of Albia, IA, Luella Adams of Atlantic, IA; a brother-in-law, Bert Carr, Jr. of Atlantic, IA; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Lois Morgan; maternal grandparents; Ray and Effie (Kirby) Williams; two sisters, Coral Lee Black and Lois Ann Morgan; his parents-in-law, Bert Carr, Sr. and his wife, Lulu; three brothers-in-law, Earl Inman, Francis Nichols, Don Adams; and two nephews, Josh Adams and Lawrence Nichols.
Funeral services for Dean Morgan will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2007, in the chapel at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic with the Reverend Gary DeGeest of the Atlantic First United Methodist Church officiating.
Friends may call after 12 Noon Wednesday, January 24, 2007, with the family present from 7:00 pm until 8:30 p.m. at Hockenberrys.
Committal services and interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery followed by a luncheon for Dean's friends and relatives in the fellowship hall at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic.
Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic is in charge of the arrangements.
