Raymond William Wede, the son of Albert August and Lydia Amanda Kiesel Wede, was born April 21. 1933, at his parents home near Bloomingdale, Illinois and died July 15, 2010, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 77 years, 2 months, and 24 days.
Raymond was baptized and confirmed May 30, 1948, at the Lutheran Church in Shelby, Iowa. He attended rural school near Shelby and then helped area farmers. On May 18, 1954, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty he was stationed in California.
On May 29, 1955, he was united in marriage to Audrie L. Hughes at the RLDS Church in Persia, Iowa. Five children were born to this union. Raymond completed his tour of duty and was discharged on May 17, 1956. He returned to Persia and helped Audries father operate his trucking business. In 1957 they moved to Gray, Iowa where Raymond operated his own corn shelling and trucking business. He hauled livestock, grain, other agricultural products and gravel for many years throughout the Midwest. Raymond retired from trucking in 2000. Raymond enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling with his camper.
Raymond attended the Gray United Methodist Church and rang the bell for the service. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his daughters: RoseAnn Wede and Sheila Rudolph; his son-in-law Alan Powell; his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law D.L. and Marie Hughes; his brothers: Ernest Wede and William Wede; and his sister-in-law Alice Nelsen.
Survivors include his wife Audrie L. Wede of Gray, Iowa; his children Mike and wife Linda Wede of Gray, Lisa Powell, Mark and Sue Wede all of Audubon, Iowa; his grandchildren Tyler Wede of Gray, Angie and Steve Agnew of Carroll, Iowa, Katelyn Wede of Gray, Jessie Hoaglund, Samantha and husband Isaiah Goetz, Wendy and husband Brian Wittrock all of Audubon, Leslie and husband Brett Weitl of Johnstown, Colorado, Allison Elizabeth, Mary and Sara Wede all of Audubon; his great grandchildren Brenna and Garrett Wittrock, Samuel Zweifel, Halo Goetz all of Audubon, Grant Agnew of Carroll; his brother Alfred and wife Genevieve Wede of Atlantic, Iowa; his sisters-in-law Betty and husband Ken Berg of Shelby, Iowa, Alice Wede of Missouri Valley, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery near Persia, Iowa at 2:00 P.M.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Sunday, July 18, 2010 from 4:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Emeritus Dwayne Ferguson and Pastor Lori Shannon on Monday, July 19, 2010, at 10:30 A.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
