The Reverend George A. Krengel, 84, of Anita, Iowa, passed away January 18, 2008, at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
George Arnold Krengel, was born December 15, 1923, in Marion, North Dakota, the son of William and Hilda (Meyer) Krengel.
He graduated from the Marion High School and was a 1948 graduate from Concordia Seminary in Springfield, Illinois.
On June 13, 1948, George married Vera L. Wallner in Springfield, Illinois. He was ordained on August 15, 1948.
Following Reverend Krengel's marriage and ordination, he served at the Christ Lutheran Church in Mason City, Illinois. In his many years of ministry, Reverend Krengel served at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bowen, Illinois and Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Golden, Illinois, St. John's Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa for 13 years, Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden, Iowa, for 20 years, was the Chaplain at the Perry Lutheran Home and during the same period of time served as Pastor at Christ's Lutheran Church in Bouton, Iowa. In 1996, Reverend Krengel was called to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita, Iowa. He also served on numerous committees and was an officer in the Iowa District West.
While in Ogden and Atlantic, Reverend Krengel was a member of the Lion's Club.
Reverend Krengel is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vera of Anita, Iowa; his daughter, Barbara Fremder of Omaha, Nebraska; three sons, Thomas Krengel of California, Mark Krengel and his wife, Emily of Atlantic, Iowa, and John Krengel and his wife, Janet of Boone, Iowa. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Erika Walker and her husband, Rocky of Bellevue, Nebraska, Marty Wahlert and his wife, Anna of Germany, Katie Wahlert of Omaha, Nebraska, Hannah Beach of Hawaii, Hans Krengel of Gunnison, Colorado, Ben and Jon Moore of Boone, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Kaden Lawrence and Logan Walker; two step great-grandchildren, Jonathon and Rockelle Walker; as well as three sisters, Esther Theiss of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Jean York of West Covina, California and Rhoda Marquoit and her husband, Leslie of Danville, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hilda Krengel; two brothers, Paul and Ronald Krengel; and his son-in-law, Steve Fremder.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 21, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m. in the Parish Center at Zion Lutheran Church.
The interment of ashes will be in the Maas Cemetery, Ogden, Iowa, at a later date.
Memorials will be used at the discretion of the family.
