Rex Harry Miller, long time Anita, IA resident, died peacefully September 21, 2011, at the Allen House in Atlantic, IA.
Rex was born to Carl Herman Miller and Nellie Pearl Harry Miller on July 16, 1918, in Adair, Iowa. He grew up in Anita and graduated from Anita High School and the American Institute of Business. He and Jane Dement married on June 20, 1941, and lived together in Anita until moving to the Allen House in Atlantic in 2009, where they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Rex served in the US Army in the South Pacific for 3 years. His service involved several combat operations including the invasion of Leyte in the Philippines. Upon his return he became an active member of the Anita community where he and Jane owned and operated Anita Meat Processing, a business that continues today under the ownership of Tim and Pam Miller. Rex spent several years on the city council and volunteer fire department as well as other civic organizations.
Surviving Rex is his wife, Jane, of Atlantic, IA; his sons, Gary (Gail) Miller of LaVista NE, David (Marilyn) Miller of Des Moines IA, and Timothy (Pam) Miller of Anita, IA; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Rex's parents preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Saturday, prior to the funeral, at the Anita Congregational Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday September 24, 2011, at the Anita Congregational Church, where he was a lifelong member. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery will follow the funeral service.
Hockenberry Family Care in Anita, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.
