Richard Andrews

Richard Wayne Andrews, 72, of Exira, Iowa, passed away April 24, 2013, at Atlantic Nursing and Rehab in Atlantic, Iowa.

Richard was born April 14, 1941, to Howard and Dorothy (Folsom) Andrews in Atlantic, Iowa. He was raised in Atlantic and attended Atlantic community schools graduating with the Atlantic High School class of 1959. He was united in marriage to Mary Lee Jacobsen on December 8, 1962, in Audubon, Iowa. He was married to Carleen Tawzer from 1980 to 1988 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was married to Carol Doyle in Phoenix, Arizona, from 1995 to 2001. Over the years he lived in several places after leaving Atlantic including Kansas City, MO, Phoenix, AZ, Commerce, GA and Exira, IA.

He was a residential and commercial roofing contractor. He worked for Andrews & Son Roofing in Atlantic and later owned and operated his own professional roofing consultant business in Arizona and in the southwestern United States. He was a member of both the National Roofing Contractors Association and the Midwest Roofing Contractors Association. He served as President of Iowa Roofing Contractors Association in 1975. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic.

Richard was a first string lineman on the Atlantic High School Trojan Football team and earned the nickname "Pinch". He found himself at the very bottom of a dog pile on the field and began pinching the players on top to get them off of him! Richard enjoyed endurance racing with his Morgan horse. He was a cowboy at heart.

He is survived by his two daughters, Gina Lee Andrews of Commerce, GA and Tami Jo Andrews of Scottsdale, AZ; his sister, Nancy Marie Alfrey and her husband, Tom of Aurora, CO; his brother, Jeffrey Andrews and his wife, Blanca of Peoria, AZ; his granddaughters, Courtney Marie Andrews of Seattle, WA, Brittany Lee Andrews, Jocelyn Marie Boyer and Audrey Lyn Boyer all of Commerce, GA; his grandson, Kyle James Boyer of Commerce, GA; and his nieces, Kacie, Kaylee and Valeria Andrews all of Peoria, AZ.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Andrews on December 10, 1979; his son, Michael Todd Andrews on July 8, 1981; his father, Howard Wayne Andrews on February 26, 2005; and his mother, Dorothy Marie Andrews on July 23, 2011.

Visitation with family will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.


Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, with burial in the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa.
