Richard Dean Bolton

May 21, 1939 — September 11, 2023

Richard Dean Bolton “Dick”, 84, went to his heavenly home on September 11, 2023.

Dick was born to Charles and Elsie (Studebaker) Bolton on May 21, 1939, in Mount Auburn, Iowa. He attended Venton High School in Vinton Iowa where he was an active member of the marching band and played the trombone. He graduated in 1957. After high school, Dick served his country in the Iowa National Guard from 1960-1966, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. During a training assignment in California, he met the love of his life, Judy (Hamilton) Bolton. They were united in marriage on May 5, 1963; they built a life together in Atlantic, Iowa, where they raised two sons.

Dick worked hard to provide for his family. He worked as a state bank examiner and in local banking at First Whitney Bank and Trust until his retirement in 2004. Dick was active in the community serving as a trustee to individuals in Atlantic as well as volunteering with the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce, and Cass County Crisis Center as a board member and a local Boy Scout leader.

Dick's faith in Jesus was an important part of his life. He attended church as a young boy with his mom and siblings, and as an adult, he was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic, Iowa. It was there that he faithfully served as a deacon and elder. He was always willing to help others and did so quietly without seeking accolades or recognition.

Dick loved his family with his whole heart. He doted on his wife Judy for over 55 years and loved and encouraged his sons both as young boys and as men. He held the special title of dad to Jonathan and Jason and father-in-law to Jason’s wife

Stephanie is lovingly referred to as the family favorite! Dick’s favorite role may have been as Grandpa to his seven grandchildren: Joel, Quincy, Amelia, Molly, Titus, Hadley and Hazel Bolton. He supported them by attending many sports games, church choir performances, and piano and dance recitals, even taking the stage as a dance partner with his granddaughters in a special dance.

Dick is preceded in death by his wife, Judy Bolton, his parents Charles and Elsie (Studebaker) Bolton, and granddaughters Molly and Hadley Bolton. Remembering him with love are his two sons, Jonathan and Jason Bolton, daughter-in-law Stephanie Bolton, grandchildren Joel, Quincy, Amelia, Titus, and Hazel Bolton, four siblings, and many nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Dick's life will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church, 3108 U.S. 40, Blue Springs, MO 64015. The family will receive visitors at 10:00 a.m., and service will begin at 11:00 a.m.
