Richard Dean Monthei

July 10, 1934 — June 19, 2015

Richard Dean Monthei, the son of Floyd Raymond and Ruth Irene (Gibson) Monthei, was born July 10, 1934, near Jefferson, Iowa and died June 19, 2015, at his home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 80 years, 11 months, and 9 days.
Richard grew up in Cooper, Iowa where he graduated from High School in 1952. Farmed for a short time then enlisted in the U .S. Navy. Was honorably discharged and attended Parson College in Fairfield, Iowa where he studied Physical Education and was a member of the baseball team.
On October 10, 1959, was united in marriage to Helen Long at the Methodist Church in Jefferson, Iowa. They had two children Kristy and Jeff. They lived in Scranton, Iowa and Richard operated heavy equipment for Pound’s Bros. Construction until he retired. They moved to Audubon, Iowa in 2009 and Richard worked part time at John Deere until his health failed.
Survivors include his wife Helen Monthei of Audubon, Iowa,; his children Kristy and husband Chris Christensen of Audubon, Iowa and Jeff Monthei of Ottumwa, Iowa; his grandchildren Clint and wife Jess Howard of Webster City, Iowa, Cole and wife Jaime Christensen, KatieJo and husband David Walters, and KaraJae Christensen all of Hamlin, Iowa; his great grandchildren Aalyah Howard and Sophie Howard both of Webster City, Tatum Christensen, Reid Christensen, Mary Walters, and Ellie Walters all of Hamlin; his brothers Larry and wife Esther Monthei of Jefferson, Iowa and Kenny and wife Debbie Monthei of Cooper, Iowa; his sister Barb and husband Arden Freeman of Jefferson, Iowa; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Maurice and wife Angie Long of Coon Rapids, Iowa, Jessie and husband Earl Olesen of Exira, Iowa and Ann Long of Statesville, North Carolina; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Following cremation there will be a private Celebration of Life Memorial Graveside Service at the Orange Township Cemetery in Guthrie County, Iowa at a later date.
