Richard Lee Anderson

July 29, 1936 — January 27, 2018

Richard Lee Anderson, the son of Ejler Harold and Hansena Christena (Nielsen) Anderson, was born July 29, 1936, near Exira, Iowa and died January 27, 2018, at his home in Quartzsite, Arizona at the age of 81 years, 5 months, and 28 days.
Richard was baptized and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. He attended rural Audubon County Schools near Exira and attended the Exira High School, Later he received his GED. On March 3, 1959, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty he served stateside and was stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington State. He was honorably discharged on February 24, 1961, and returned to the Exira/Brayton area. Richard began sandblasting and painting in Atlantic, Iowa for various people. On November 23, 1974, he was united in marriage to Rose Joy at the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton, Iowa. Richard then began sandblasting and painting bridges in the surrounding counties and also operated his own paint shop until he retired. Rose Joy died from cancer in 2002. On February 13, 2005, he married Betty Sue who later died of cancer on April 18, 2008. Since that time Richard has been with his Sweetheart LouRene Sherod. During most of his live, Richard lived in Brayton and spent the winters in Quartzsite, Arizona. For the past five years Richard and Lou Rene have made their home in Quartzsite.
Richard was a member of the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton and the Lutheran Church in Quartzsite. He was a member of the Masonic Exodus Lodge #342 for many years and the Brayton American Legion Post #350. Richard enjoyed fishing, rodeos, NASCAR, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He collected rock, made jewelry, and enjoyed going to Flea Markets. But most of all he enjoyed music jams which he helped organize and sang and played his guitar and enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends.
Preceding him in death were his wives Rose Joy Anderson and Betty Sue Anderson; his sons Daniel J. Paige and Richie Paige; his daughter Teresa Brown; his grandson Jeffrey Joy Paige; his daughter-in-law Rosemary Paige; his parents; his brothers Russell and wife Delores Anderson and Milo and wife Florence Anderson; his sister Veda and husband Norman Larsen and his brother-in-law Earl Bennett.
Survivors include his Sweetheart, Lou Rene Sherod of Quartzsite, Arizona; his children Richard M. and wife Charlotte Anderson of Hays, Kansas, Tommy Anderson of Oakland, Iowa, Jody Griswold of Antioch, California, Patti and husband Jeff Wilson of Adair, Iowa, and Kathy Paige of Shelby, Iowa; numerous grandchildren, many great grandchildren; his sister Lola Bennett of Carroll, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa. Inurnment will be in the Exira Cemetery. The family will meet with friends Saturday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 1:30 p.m. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa
