Robert Dale Cappel, was born January 3, 1968, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Richard Dale and Diane Dee (Hoffman) Cappel and passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona.
Bob was baptized and confirmed at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic. He graduated from the Atlantic High School with the class of 1986, where he was active in debate, forensics, music, plays, and was a member of the golf team. He attended Simpson College where he traveled with the Madrigal Singers, and then attended the University of Iowa. On September 5, 1998, Bob married Heather Johnson in Eugene, Oregon.
Bob was employed at KJAN Radio in Atlantic for three years during high school. He had a varied career of entrepreneurial pursuits including publishing Marquee movie magazine in Seattle, WA, starting an ecommerce business in Schaumburg, IL, and pursuing freelance pursuits such as voice acting, computer consulting, and web development. Bob was passionate about cooking, movies, video games, and cat rescues.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his infant sister, Rebecca Cappel; and his mother-in-law, Mary Johnson.
Bob is survived by his wife, Heather Cappel of Phoenix, AZ; his parents, Dick and Diane Cappel of Atlantic, IA; his brother, Doug (Jennifer) Cappel of West Des Moines, IA; his niece, Maddie Cappel and nephew, Alex Cappel both of West Des Moines, IA; his aunts and uncles, Carol (Fred) Emmert of South Bend, IN, Tom (Janet) Cappel of Atlantic, IA and Dr. Dennis (Phyllis) Hoffman of Temple, TX; his great-aunt, Anna Mary Nelson and his great-uncle, Dick Wright both of Atlantic, IA; his great-aunt, Margaret Gregersen of Storm Lake, IA; his father-in-law, Larry Johnson; his brother-in-law, Chris Johnson; and his sister-in-law, Caelin Johnson all of Eugene, OR; many cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation with family will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Atlantic. A graveside ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa. Following the graveside service, there will be a lunch and fellowship at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
