Robert Charles Alt

Robert Charles Alt, the son of William C., Jr. and Rose (Axelsen) Alt, was born January 20, 1930, at his parents’ home in Hamlin Township rural Audubon County, Iowa and died February 9, 2015, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 85 years and 19 days.
Robert was baptized and attended rural schools in Audubon County. He then helped on the family farm. In 1951 he moved with his mother into Audubon. Bob was employed as a day laborer for several individuals and contractors over the years until he retired. He lived with and cared for his mother until her death in 1983. Bob lived at home for several years before moving to the Friendship Home in Audubon in 2003.
Bob enjoyed creating art projects, riding his bicycle; gardening and woodworking where he especially liked to make small storage boxes.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sisters Ruth and husband Leonard Kness, Raymond and wife Pearl Alt, and Marie and husband Belmont Byriel; his sister-in-law Shirley Alt and his brother-in-law H.P. Jorgensen, Jr.
Survivors include his brother John W. Alt of Kearney, Missouri; his sisters Jane Jorgensen of Audubon, Iowa, and Neoma and husband Phillip Thomas of Ames, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Doug Opp on Friday, February 13, 2015, at 10:30 A.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. The casket bearers will be Aaron Jorgensen, Jon Jorgensen, Eugene Alt, Scott Alt, Jeff DeBower, and Todd Lawshe. The family will meet with friends Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa
