Robert Christensen

Robert A. Christensen Jr., age 66, passed away on May 8, 2015, at the Manor Care Healthcare Facility in Des Moines, Iowa, after a battle with cancer. He is survived by his brother, John L. Christensen of Atlantic, IA; his son, Adam Christensen and his wife Monica of Urbandale, IA; his daughter, Shelby Herrera of Houston, TX; and his beloved grandchildren, Ava & Andon and Cole.

Born on July 26, 1948, the first son of Robert and Vivian Christensen, he was a lifelong resident of Atlantic and known to many around town as "Bub". In his early years, he met Sheryl Mozingo and the two were married in 1971 and later had two children. He sold insurance most of his professional life and eventually opened his own business, Compare Insurance.

He relished his memories of fishing, hunting, golfing, boating and camping with his family and friends. He was active in many youth sports, a lover of baseball and a Hawkeye fan for life. He was an avid reader, a history buff and a self-proclaimed storm chaser. He enjoyed National Lampoon style family vacations, always stopping at the most unusual places for souvenirs. Above all, Bub was a dedicated story teller, who would say he never met a stranger in all of his years. He cared for others and his family and wanted everyone to have a good time in whatever they did.

He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

In memory of Bub's fondness for social gatherings, the family invites anyone interested, to join them for a closed celebration with food and laughs on Friday night, May 15, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Rumors Lounge in Atlantic.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa, with a reception to follow.
