Robert Clausen

March 12, 1923 — January 8, 2010

Robert LeRoy Clausen was born March 12, 1923, southeast of Brayton, Iowa, the son of Albert and Florence (Nelson) Clausen and passed away Friday, January, 8, 2010, at Colonial Manor in Anita, Iowa.

He attended country schools in Cass and Audubon Counties, and graduated from Exira High School.

On April 12, 1946, Robert married Leona Mable Kahl at the Anita Holy Cross Lutheran Church Parsonage. The couple lived with Leona's parents, helping on the Kahl family farm until moving to a farm in the Atlantic area. Later they purchased a farm south of Adair. When Bob retired from farming, they moved to Wiota. During this time Robert worked at the Wiota Elevator. He also worked at Lindeman Tractor as a mechanic, and as a hog buyer for Midwestern Pork. He worked at the Tune Up Inn in Wiota until his retirement in 1981. They moved back to the Kahl family farm in Walnut in 1996. The last few years he lived in Atlantic.

He attended Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita until 1997, and then transferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Walnut.

Robert will be remembered for being very social, as he enjoyed his family and the time he spent with them was very important. He also had a good time drinking coffee with his friends.


Robert and Leona spent their winters in Texas for 23 years. His hobbies included camping and they were members of the Wiota Camper's Club. Robert was also a member of the Wiota Fire Department.


He enjoyed woodworking and tinkering with his old tractors. He also enjoyed getting his hands dirty, working in the soil in his garden and on the farm. He loved his family and treasured the family get togethers, especially spending Christmas with his sisters and their families.


Robert is survived by his daughters; Judy (Tom) Good of Johnston, Iowa, Jolene Rojohn of Des Moines, Iowa, Janelle (Dennis) Hockenberry of Wiota, Iowa, and Deborah (Delmar) Frisbie of Adair, Iowa. He is also survived by a son; Dennis (Deb) Clausen of Creston, Iowa, his grandchildren; Stephanie (Chad) Allsup , Michael (Kelly) Good and Bradley (Lori) Good all of Urbandale, Iowa, Mandy Holste of Atlantic, Iowa, Nicholas (Rachel) Frisbie of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Erik (Dory) Clausen of Creston, Iowa, Rebecca (Will) Hellentall of Vinton, Iowa, Michelle (Josh) Sevier of Waukee, Iowa, Bethany (Lee) Madison of Orient, Iowa; great-grandchildren Kara, Jacob, Emma, Logan, Makayla, Kyler, Kayla, Colton, Liam, Calen, Brayton and Garrick, sisters; Marjorie Krakau, Harriet Alff, Ruby (Floyd) Krakau and Ruth (Jack) Large.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Florence (Nelson) Clausen, his wife Leona, brother-in-law; Orville Krakau, Henry Alff and a nephew, Richard Krakau.

Services will be held Monday, January 11, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Walnut, Iowa.


A visitation will be held at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa, on Sunday, January 10, 2010, with a prayer service at 3:00 p.m. and the family present to greet friends from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m.


Burial will be in the Layton Township Cemetery in Walnut, Iowa.

A luncheon will be held in the church fellowship hall following the burial.


Robert's family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
