Robert L. Euken was born March 18, 1928, in Cass County, Iowa, the son of Carl and Lizzie (Thomsen) Euken and passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Robert grew up on the family Century Farm in Cass County. He served in the Iowa National Guard from 1948 to 1953. On September 5, 1954, he married Ethel Eileen Andersen in Atlantic, Iowa. Robert was a lifetime farmer, owned and operated Euken Trucking and was an Archer Oil Dealer. After they retired, Robert and Ethel moved to Cumberland and most recently resided at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.
He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, south of Wiota, where he served on the cemetery board for many years and held many positions for the church board. Robert was also a member of the Cumberland City Council, the Cumberland Telephone Board, the Two Cylinder Club and NFO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lizzie Euken; his brother and sister-in-law, Emert and Darleen Euken; his sister and brother-in-law, Lavon and Eldon Kiddoo; his sisters-in-law, Linda Euken, Sandra Andersen and Carol Andersen; his brother-in-law, Claude Andersen and his nephews, Mark Euken and Steven Miller.
Robert is survived by his wife, Ethel Euken of Atlantic, IA; his sons, Kent (Brenda) Euken of Wiota, IA and Davin Euken of Minneapolis, MN; his daughter, Denise (Chris) McKinney of Columbia, SC; his grandchildren, Jamie (Laura Swanson) Euken of Washington D.C., Mindy (Juan Carlos Cadenillas) Euken-Cadenillas of Des Moines, IA, Brent (Kristi Westphalen) Euken of Atlantic, IA, Chelsey Godwin and Ethan Godwin of Columbia, SC; his brother, Aryln (Edie) Euken of Cape Coral, FL; his sisters-in-law, Irma Miller of Council Bluffs, IA and Norma Andersen of Atlantic, IA; his brothers-in-law, Howard Andersen of Atlantic, IA and Ralph Andersen of Littleton, CO; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held Monday, July 7, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, south of Wiota, Iowa.
A time for lunch and visitation will be held following the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Unity Point Hospice or the family for designation at a later date.
