Robert Morris Jensen, age 80 of Brayton, IA, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, Iowa at 80 years of age. Robert was born on November 3, 1943, in Brayton, Iowa, to Rachel and Harold “Shorty” Jensen, where he grew up on the family farm with his two brothers and two sisters. He attended country school right across the road from his house and graduated from Exira High School in 1962. Robert served in the U.S. Army from May 1965 to April 1967 in an artillery unit. He was stationed most of that time in Germany, where he enjoyed documenting the German countryside and communities with his 35mm camera. After the army, Robert returned to the family farm, where he ran a cow-calf operation.
When Robert wasn’t busy tending his herd or making hay, he enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler around the farm, often making trips down to the pond and back to do some fishing. He enjoyed hunting deer, pheasant, and turkey, but especially loved springtime morel mushroom hunting. No matter the season, Robert loved being outdoors. In addition to his outdoor pastimes, Robert was also always up for a game of dominoes or cards.
After retirement, Robert continued to enjoy living on the farm. Anyone who knew Robert knew his kind nature and positive outlook on life. Robert knew how to enjoy every moment and not hurry through life, and always was willing to conversate if you had time to talk.
Robert is preceded in death by his father Harold, mother Rachel, and sister Delores Reilly. He is survived by two brothers Jim Jensen and Charlie Jensen, and a sister Marilyn Dill, several nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Friday, July 26 at 11:00 at Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, Iowa.
