Robert Lane

Robert Joseph Lane Jr. 71, of Cumberland, Iowa, passed away suddenly Saturday, November 15, 2014, at his home in Cumberland, Iowa.

He was born March 9, 1943, the son of Robert and Eileen (McCabe) Lane Sr. in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He attended Humboldt High School in Humboldt, Iowa, where he grew up. He farmed and raised hogs for several years. He began working for Farmegg Products near Humboldt which started his career that lasted 43 years in the shell egg business. His job as supervisor, manager and CEO of various egg facilities took him to MN, VA, PA, TX, KS and back to Iowa. After retiring from the egg business he started work with Roadsafe Traffic Systems closing roads for the railroads. He was presently employed with them at the time of his death.

Surviving Robert is his wife, Susan; his six children, Susan of Springfield, MO, Steve and wife Jeri of Humboldt, IA, David of Copper Hill, VA, Cindy Gossman and husband Tim of Massena, IA, Lindsey Forester and husband Randy of Fort Scott, KS; stepson, Bryan Blair and wife Michelle of Newton, MA; grandchildren, Erica, Sydney, Kylie, Blake, Lydia, Jacie, Wyatt and April. He was looking forward to his 9th grandchild next year. Siblings, Mary Kay Ersland (Lynn) of Grey Eagle, MN, Larry(Marlys) of Humboldt, IA, Cathy (Leon) Heider of Humboldt, IA; nieces, nephew, friends and his favorite Aunt, Mary Margaret Collins(Bill) of Fort Dodge, IA.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Stephen and Patrick.

Bob enjoyed being with his family, meeting new people and making friends wherever he went. Bob's wish was to be cremated. Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials can be sent to Hockenberry Funeral home.
