Robert Schwartz

Robert "Bob" Schwartz, 77, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Atlantic Nursing and Rehab in Atlantic, Iowa.

Robert Wayne Schwartz was born on April 14, 1931, in Cass County, Iowa, the son of Otto Bernhardt and Mabel (Sorenson) Schwartz

He attended school in Cass County and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1949. Following graduation he moved to Los Angeles, California. While living in L.A. he managed different restaurants, cocktail lounges, nightclubs and bowling alleys. The cocktail lounge that he remembered managing the most was the Rainbow Room. It was one of the top night clubs on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood. The Rainbow Room still exists today.

On October 27, 1977, he married Patricia Prom in Reno, Nevada. Those attending the ceremony were his parents and aunt. Bob's best man was his father, Otto.

Together they moved to Grants Pass, Oregon, and lived there for more than 25 years. When leaving they left many dear friends. Bob and Pat returned to Atlantic on May 11, 2000.

He was a 52 year member of the Atlantic Elk Lodge #445. Bob was also a past member of the Eagles Lodge in Grants Pass, Oregon.

Bob loved dogs, and he and Pat attended and showed at the American Kennel Club Dog Shows for many years. He enjoyed flowers, and planting them as well. Pat said he had a "Greenthumb."

Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia of Atlantic, Iowa, his dogs, Pippin and Shotzie; sister, Dorothy Henriksen and her husband, Norman of Atlantic, Iowa; his nephew, Jon Henriksen of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his nieces, Marcia Buboltz and her husband, Dave of Lewis, Iowa, and Mary Jo Henriksen and her husband, Reverend Alan Hanson of Omaha, Nebraska; great nieces and nephews, Michelle and Aaron Buboltz, Maren and Jeremy Hanson, Kirstine Fitzgerald and her husband, Billie; his aunt, Viola Schwartz of Atlantic, Iowa; and his cousins, Ronald Knight and his wife, Jackie, Nancy Jacobs and her husband, Dave, Arlene Rainey and her husband, Richard, Jim Schwartz and Cathy Booth, Gene Schwartz and his wife, Ellen, Gerald Schwartz and his wife, Jane, and Paul Schwartz and his wife, Crystel, Marlene Martin and her husband, Bob, Mickey Schwartz and Jane Schwartz.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Mabel Schwartz; and his cousins, Raymond Knight, Carlyle, Dale and Darrell Schwartz, and Betty Lund.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 13, 2008, at the Atlantic Cemetery with services conducted by the Elks Lodge Chaplain. Following the service the family invites you to Elks Lodge #445, 501 Poplar Street in Atlantic for refreshments.

Bob has been cremated and no other services are planned.
