Rodney Schuler

Rodney Dorland Schuler was born January 17, 1958, the son of Dorland Harold and Verna Elaine (Bishop) Schuler in Red Oak, Iowa, and passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at his home in Atlantic, Iowa.

He grew up in rural Griswold, Iowa, and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1976. On September 6, 1986, Rod married Michelle Dawn Gordon at the Central Church of Christ in Griswold. The couple moved to Atlantic where they lived and raised their four children. Rod was a part of the family business, Schuler Manufacturing, all of his life. He was a member of the First Church of Christ in Atlantic where he served as both an elder and a Sunday school teacher.

From the time his children were young, Rod greatly enjoyed supporting them through attending their various activities. His love of sports was heightened through his three son's participation, but he also grew to appreciate music through his daughter and his wife. As Rod grew up, he and his family made a tradition out of traveling to Canada to fish and enjoy time with each other. Once Rod had a family of his own, this tradition continued and became one of his favorite things. Next to his Savior, family was his greatest love, and he was so excited about welcoming his first grandchild into the world this summer. Behind Rod's gentle and quiet spirit was an unmatched sense of humor that was present until the very end. Ultimately, he will be remembered most for his devotion to the Lord and his desire to glorify Him with his life.

Rod was preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother-in-law, Peggy Gordon.

Surviving Rod are his wife, Michelle Schuler of Atlantic; his children, Jordan (Chelsi) Schuler of Atlantic, Brandon (fiancé, Shannon Bowar) of Davenport, IA, Kristen Schuler and Evan Schuler of Atlantic; his parents, Dorland and Verna Schuler of Griswold; his brothers and sister, Reggie (Jeanie) Schuler of Griswold, Rhonda (Steve) Hayward of Joplin, MO and Roger (Janelle) Schuler of Massillon, OH; his father-in-law, Don (Kathy) Gordon of Le Mars, IA; his brother-in-law, Todd (Deb) Gordon of Carlisle, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, both at the First Church of Christ in Atlantic, Iowa.

A private family burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery at a later date.
