Roma L. Hardwick

Roma Lucille Hardwick, the daughter of Harry and Eva Davis Hockenberry, was born December 10, 1912, at her parents home near Exira, Iowa and died July 8, 2009, at the Exira Care Center in Exira at the age of 96 years, 6 months, and 28 days.
Roma was baptized at the Exira Christian Church. She attended Exira Community Schools, graduating with the High School Class of 1932. Roma worked as a housekeeper in Des Moines, Iowa for a short time and then worked in Omaha, Nebraska for several years.
On December 23, 1937, she was united in marriage to Walter Hardwick in Des Moines. Three children, Mary, Robert, and Carolyn were born to this union. They lived in Brayton, Iowa, but Roma accompanied her husband, who worked for the Rock Island Railroad, to many of the locations where he worked. When the children reached school age, Romathenstayed in Brayton where she was a homemaker. After Walter retired she enjoyed going fishing with him. Walter died January 23, 1994. Roma moved to Exira where she enjoyed her home, then moved to the Exira Care Center in January of 2006.
Roma was a member of the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton, Iowa and was a member of the Women of the ELCA. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting. She was an avid reader and in her later years enjoyed putting puzzles together, then hanging the finished product in her room.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were her children: Mary Stoner and Robert Hardwick; her brother Gerald Hockenberry and her sister Thelma and husband Forrest Daugherty and an infant sister Zilpha Hockenberry.
Survivors include her daughter Carolyn Sams of Exira, IA; her son-in-law Dale and wife Sandra Stoner of Miriam, KS; her daughter-in-law Margaret Hardwick of Marshville, NC; her grandchildren: Barbara Clevenger of Overland Park, KS, Janet Galvin of Leawood, KS; Dawn Sams of Exira; Quint and wife April Sams of Thornton, CO; her great-grandchildren: Kathryn Clevenger of Paola, KS; Mariah Galvin and Robert Galvin, both of Leawood; Aric Sams and Lenaya Sams, both of Thornton, CO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Inurnment will be in the Oakfield Cemetery east of Brayton, Iowa

Service:
Graveside services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock at a later date.
