Ronald Edwin Burk, 81, of Urbandale, Iowa, and formerly of Atlantic, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at the Urbandale Health Center in Urbandale, Iowa.

Ronald Edwin Burk was born in Hopkins, Missouri, on August 5, 1935, to Ivan and Edra (Garten) Burk. He attended schools in Missouri, Walnut, Iowa, and Lewis, Iowa.

After school he worked at farming and an auto garage in Griswold, Iowa, until he joined the Marines on June 14, 1954. He was a proud Marine and was stationed in Okinawa. While stationed there, he was a driver for the "Old Man" (the General). When he returned to the states, his many talents showed with the work he did mechanically restoring old vehicles and in the construction he did. He was very skillful at construction and was asked to address an engineering class at Iowa State University concerning road construction.
He worked for Henningsen Construction building roads. He also was in the construction business with his brothers and then formed his own company building air plane hangars, banks and other structures.

He was married to Carolyn Roberts and to this union three children were born, Barbara, Ricky and Trudy. He later was divorced and then married Pat Marshall in 1982.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Graydon Anderson; brothers, William Joe and Robert Dean; sisters, Rowena Ellen, Carol Jean Tolzman and Sharon McCleery; nephew, Daniel Burk; and step-granddaughters, Mollie and Vickie Wilson.

Ron is survived by his wife, Pat Burk of Urbandale, IA; daughters, Barbara (Mark) Fugler of Austin, TX and Trudy Nelson of Atlantic, IA; a son, Ricky Burk of Round Rock, TX; five granddaughters; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Duane (Mary) Burk of Leander, TX, Kelly (Vickie) Burk of Springfield, MO and Richard (Corrine) Burk of Hallsville, MO; a sister, Judith (Ken) Maxson of Belton, MO; three step-daughters, Melissa (Rich) Wilson of Pleasant Hill, IA, Angela (Brian) Acker of Altoona, IA and Suzanne (John) Kridelbaugh of Cambridge, OH; and eight step-grandchildren.
Visitation with family will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 6, 2016, also at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, with burial in the Atlantic Cemetery.
