Ronald Guttenfelder

August 14, 1930 — October 8, 2012

Ronald Guttenfelder, 82, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Monday, October 8, 2012, at Atlantic Nursing & Rehab Center.

He was born August 14, 1930, to Raymond and Mildred (Turner) Guttenfelder on the family farm in Atlantic, Iowa. Ron attended the Atlantic Community Schools and graduated with the Atlantic High school class of 1948. He played high school football and was the quarterback for the undefeated 1947 Atlantic Trojans team. On December 7, 1952, Ron was united in marriage to Jacqueline Peyton.

Ron helped out on the family farm until he became an owner and operator of his own farm. He farmed many years with his son Doug on the family's Century Farm. During those years, feeding cattle and raising quarter horses gave him a lot of enjoyment. In the early 70's, he helped start the 4-H club, Cowpokes, to educate young people on showing horses at the county fair. For many years he attended sale barns buying cattle for local producers. Farming was always such a big part of Dad's life, that even when he turned things over to Doug he still enjoyed helping out with anything he could. In the later years he loved watching the grandkids play sports.

He was a lifelong member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Atlantic. He did attend church on an occasion with Jackie at the United Methodist Church in Atlantic. Ron was also a lifelong member of the BPOE #445 Elks Lodge in Atlantic. Ron enjoyed playing cards with his friends twice a week. He also went out for breakfast, conversation or "BS" with his coffee buddies daily.

Ron is survived by his wife, Jackie Guttenfelder of Atlantic, IA; his son, Doug and wife Teresa Guttenfelder, and their children, Alec and Liz, all of Atlantic; his daughter, Susan of Humboldt, IA, and her children, Hillary (Benji) Lenz and their children, Clay, Peyton and Brinley, all of Manson, IA, Nic (Tracy) Briseno, and their daughter, Eliana, all of Ames, IA and DeLesa Briseno of Livermore, CA; his sister, Doris (Richard) Cook of Atlantic, IA; his nieces, Terri (Scott) Cook-Thielen of Atlantic, Sarah Olsen of Atlantic and Barb (Mike) Andrews of Ft. Collins, CO., other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mildred Guttenfelder.
