Ronald Zike

Ronald Zike, 89, of Atlantic, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Heritage House in Atlantic.


Ronald William Zike was born December 20, 1922, in Lewis, Iowa, to Merle Sheets Zike and John William Zike. He graduated from Lewis High School in 1940.


Ron served in the Navy from 1942-1945 as an Aviation Machinist Mate. He worked in the supermarket business for ten years, travelled with Proctor & Gamble for 9 years, and was a travelling supervisor for Bantam Books for twenty years. Ron was a 65 year member of Masonic Lodge #412 of Griswold, IA.


Ron is survived by his 3 stepchildren, Carolyn (Wes) Peterson of Breckenridge, MO, Christy (Bob) Savage of Blacksburg, VA, and David (Charlotte) Schmidt of Grain Valley, MO and their families; son-in-law, Randall Bengard of Clarinda; as well as nieces and a nephew.


He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois; his daughter, Carol; and granddaughter Jennifer; and his second wife, Leila.


The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Saturday morning at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic. A private graveside service will be held later.


In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials to Nishna Valley Family YMCA in Atlantic in Ron's memory.
