Rosalie “Obermeier” Cron

June 16, 1938 — October 14, 2024

Rosalie “Obermeier” Cron, aged 86, passed away on October 14, 2024, at Care Initiatives in Atlantic. She was born on June 16, 1938 to George and Mabelle (Anderson) Cavanaugh in Atlantic. Spent most of her time in and around Atlantic, except for ten years spent in Council Bluffs. She was a member of the Atlantic High School class of 1956.

Rosalie's career spanned various roles, most notably as the Front Desk Manager at Paxton Hotel in Omaha, before returning to Atlantic in 1974 to help care for her mother. She later became one of the first managers at the original Atlantic Casey's, before taking on various other jobs. Above all, Rosalie cherished her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother.

Rosalie was married to Jimmie Snyder of Wiota of which three sons were born, Jimmie, Timmie and Linn. After her divorce in 1972 she was a single mother until all three reached adulthood.

She was married to Lavern Obermeier in 1981 until his death in 2013. They enjoyed the simpler things in life together and were truly made for each other.

Late in life she married Lloyd Cron. While they dated when she was in high school and again in the 70’s it wasn’t until 2018 he finally convinced her to marry him. He too had a bit of mischief in him, but she was again widowed in 2023.

She enjoyed family gatherings, especially the 4th of July in the park, Thanksgiving both of which included all the Cavanaugh’s as well as Christmas Eve at her house where she would make everyone’s individual favorite dishes and desserts. Making Bunny cakes at Easter was a big hit as well. All you had to do was let her know what you loved, and she would make sure she made it for you when you were around.

Warm and caring, Rosalie was known for her quick wit and the laughter that often accompanied her presence. Things like driving along with a couple of grandsons and saying, “See those power lines up there…I bet you $5 I can take my shoes off and jump over them.” Of course, they took the bet and then she pulled over got out… took her shoes off and jumped over her shoes and won the bet. And there were times the shoe was on the other foot, like when a dead snake happened to end up in her mailbox by the same grandsons. Joking and pranking was as much given as received with love.

She also enjoyed traveling and had several memorable trips. One being taking her dying brother to Idaho to see their nephew. Other trips included Okoboji, Smoky Mountains and out east to see a niece in New York.

Rosalie is survived by her sister Rita Ford: sons, Jimmie Snyder, Timmie (Carrie Kirchhoff) Snyder; stepchildren Kevin, Mike, Doreen, and Brad (Suzanne) Obermeier; grandchildren, Kevin Snyder, Steven Snyder, Brandi (Ron) Samson, Timothy (Lauren) Snyder, Rebeka (Jake) Bohrer, Corey (Erin) Obermeier and Darren, David, Brett, Kelsey, Jacklyn and Elizabeth Obermeier; along with numerous great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mabelle, and George Cavanaugh; son, Linn Snyder; husbands, Laverne Obermeier and Lloyd Cron; and brothers, Jim, George and Edward Cavanaugh.

A private family interment will be held in her memory in Brighton Township Cemetery near Marne, IA. Rosalie will be remembered for the warmth and laughter she brought into the lives of those around her.

Memorials may be directed to the Rosalie Cron Family, to be designated at a later date in memory of her. They may be mailed to Schmidt Family Funeral Home P.O. Box 523, Atlantic, IA 50022.
