Rowley (John) R. Pollock, Jr. 82, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2008, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Rowley Raymond Pollock, Jr. was born August 21, 1925, in Anita, Iowa, the son of Rowley Raymond, Sr. and Ida Alice (Dorale) Pollock. Rowley was raised in Anita and attended Anita High School.

Rowley entered the Navy while still a senior in high school in November 1943. He entered as a Fireman 1st Class and later was promoted to Electricians Mate 3-C. He spent time in Pearl Harbor, the Marshall Islands, and one year in the Aleutian Islands during WWII. He was discharged May 1946 and had enough credits from Electrical school to receive his diploma from Anita High School.

After his discharge from the Navy, Rowley worked as an electrician for Western Electric in California, Dubuque and Davenport, Iowa, and Omaha, Nebraska.

On August 25, 1949, Rowley married Shirley Ann Scott in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

He farmed southeast of Anita until 1959 at which time he worked as a carpenter in the new housing development on South Olive in Atlantic. In 1960 he started working for Atlantic Municipal Utilities and retired from there in 1987. He then worked for Atlantic Parks and Recreation for approximately 17 years.

Rowley was a member of the VFW Barley-Alff Post #8766, the Anita American Legion Post #210, the Southwest Iowa Two Cylinder Club and was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Anita.

He loved going to flea markets and sales, collecting antiques and toy tractors. He enjoyed working on his antique tractors and taking them to parades and tractor shows. He also took pleasure in gardening.

Surviving Rowley are a son Randy Pollock and his wife, Elizabeth of Anita, Iowa; his daughter, Kathy Lehman and her husband, Don of Anita, Iowa; his brother, Donald, and his wife Betty of Anita, Iowa; four grandchildren, Suzann Raveling and her husband, Robert of Templeton, Iowa; Jim Pollock and his friend, Tasha of Anita, Iowa, John Pollock of Anita, Iowa, and JoBeth LaFoy and her husband, Dennis of Audubon, Iowa; ten great-grandchildren, Shawnell Rush, Randi Rinehart, Erykha and Evan Raveling, Christian LaFoy, Matthew Pollock, Madison, Kristine, Andrew and Haley. Also surviving are Randy's wife's children, Jans Visker of Salem, Oregon, Tina Propst and her husband, Joseph of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Serena and her husband Mark Helenski of Anita, Iowa.

Rowley was preceded in death by his parents, Rowley Sr. and Ida Pollock; his wife, Shirley on April 28, 2007; and his brother, William Pollock.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Hockenberry Funeral Home Chapel in Anita, Iowa, with the Reverend Dean Porter officiating. Rowley's ashes will be buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Anita. There will be no visitation prior to the memorial service, but the family invites friends to a luncheon, following the committal service, at the United Methodist Church in Anita, Iowa.
