Rozelle Irene Madison, the daughter of Hans C. and Lydia Madsen Miller, was born April 19, 1921, at her parents home in Sharon Township near Kimballton, Iowa and died May 28, 2011, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 90 years, I month, and 9 days.
Rozelle was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She attended rural school east of Audubon near the Guthrie County line. She was a very happy child and loved spending time at her paternal grandparents farm The White Star Farm which was located near her birth place. She always enjoyed riding one of her ponies Fudge or Prince to school and picking up friends to ride with her. Following her schooling she helped at home and worked for other people.
On April 15, 1939, she was united in marriage to Bruno Lauritsen in Elk Point, South Dakota. Nine children Jerry, Rich, Judy, Patty, Cheryl, Sally, Mary, Paul, and Kent were born to this union. The lived on and operated several farms in the Audubon County area. During this time, Rozelle was a home maker taking care of Bruno and the children. Bruno died February 3, 1967. Rozelle worked as a baby sitter for several years. She then was employed as a cook at the Audubon Elementary School for over sixteen years until she retired.
On January 24, 1975, she married Harold B. Madison at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon. They enjoyed camping and traveling across the United States. Harold died February 21, 1995. Since that time Rozelle has continued to enjoy living in her home in Audubon.
Rozelle was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon. She enjoyed her weekly trips to the church to help fold the Shepards Staff and help in the church kitchen. She loved to bake especially bread, cinnamon rolls, and pies. Rozelle always had a large garden and spent many hours canning the produce she grew. She loved to play cards and belonged to several card clubs. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to congregate meals. She also enjoyed spending time with her best friend Virginia Bornholdt who she had been friends with for over 70 years. Rozelle enjoyed her yearly shopping trips with her daughters. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren and attending all their special events.
Rozelle was preceded in death by her husbands Bruno Lauritsen and Harold B. Madison; her son Paul Lauritsen; her grandchildren Patrick Lauritsen and Elizabeth Hill; her son-in-law Larry Hill; her grandsons-in-law Jeff Nelson and Todd Nielsen; her parents; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Howard Rasmussen, Don Rose, Harry and wife Peggy Lauritsen, Eva and husband Curt Wilson and Mary Lee Lauritsen; and a nephew David Rasmussen.
Survivors include her children Jerry and wife Sandi Lauritsen, and Rich and wife Jan Lauritsen all of Audubon, Iowa, Judy Hill of Exira, Iowa, Patty Lauritsen of Kimballton, Iowa, Cheryl and husband Jerry Wahlert of Exira, Sally and husband Roger Williams of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Mary and husband Delbert Christensen of Audubon, and Kent and wife Teresa Lauritsen of Lockbourne, Ohio; her grandchildren Lori and Tony Hilsabeck of Walker, Minnesota, Paul and Donna Lauritsen of Waukee, Iowa, Becky and Randy Thompson of Exira, Iowa, Barbara and Darreld Landon of Fairfax, Iowa, Susan and Brent Kuehnast of Humboldt, Iowa, Tom Hill of Exira, Todd and Angie Madsen of Harlan, Iowa, Pamela and Doug Parker of Elk Horn, Iowa, Brad and Tamie Madsen of Kimballton, Iowa, Angie and John Weitl of Omaha, Nebraska, Beth and Mike Lauritsen of Exira, Lynn and Jeremy Andersen of Guthrie Center, Iowa, Patrick and Amy Williams of Marshalltown, Iowa, Clint and Michelle Williams of Rochester, Minnesota, Blake and Emy Williams of Ely, Iowa, Melanie and Randy Larsen and Jason and Tracie Christensen all of Audubon, Katie and Jon Merk of Waukee, Iowa, Trent Lauritsen and Dustin Lauritsen both of Lockbourne, Ohio; 45 great grandchildren; her sisters Elaine Rasmussen of Exira, Wanda Rose of Omaha, Nebraska; her brother-in-law Louie Lauritsen of Farmington, New Mexico, her step-children Mark and Linda Madison of Adair, Iowa, Stephen Madison of Dubuque, Iowa, Paul and Sara Madison of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Rita and Bruce Pfannkuch of Harlan, Iowa; 10 step grandchildren; 11 step great grandchildren; her sister-in-law Ardivene and husband Hollis Walker of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Wednesday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Doug Opp on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
