Russell Hoegh, 64, a lifelong Atlantic, Iowa, resident, passed away Friday, August 3, 2007, at his home.
Russell Eugene Hoegh was born May 27, 1943, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Wilbert Clausen and Esther Ellnor (Mumgaard) Hoegh. He graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1962 and then attended the Universal Trade School in Omaha, Nebraska.
On October 4, 1963, Russell married Mary Helen Gresham in Omaha, Nebraska.
Russ was a Service Supervisor for Montgomery Wards and later owned and operated his own plumbing and heating company. In 1995, he began work for the Iowa Department of Corrections, working in the Clarinda facility until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, where he was baptized and confirmed.
In the past, Russ was a member of the Atlantic Jaycees, the Elk's Lodge and the Eagles Lodge.
He was currently an active member of the "Circles 4 Success" organization and was a proud friend of Bill W.'s.
Russ was very proud of his Danish heritage and loved old cars. Anyone who spent any time with or near him, knew his wonderful sense of humor. But above all his interests and hobbies, Russ loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, and had a deep spiritual love of his God.
Russ is survived by his wife, Mary of Atlantic; two daughters, Amy "Squirt" Maeder and her husband, Don of Atlantic, Iowa, Carrie "Butch" Hoegh (Joe Klages) of Des Moines, Iowa; his grandchildren, Benjamin "Cockroach" Jessen, Anthony "Ant" Jessen, of Atlantic, Iowa, Khristan Kaufman and her husband, Brad of Kansas City, Missouri, Laura Bowman and her husband, Josh of Corning, Iowa, Joey, Matt and Tyler Klages of Carlisle, Iowa; his great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn "Cricket" Bowman of Corning, Iowa; his sister, Patricia Nielsen and her husband, Don of Audubon, Iowa; his brother, Steve Hoegh and his wife, Jini of Clarinda, Iowa; an uncle, Harold Hoegh and his wife, Lorraine of Exira, Iowa; his aunt, Mary Mumgaard of Lincoln, Nebraska; as well as his mother-in-law, Helen Gresham of Red Oak, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Esther Hoegh and a nephew, Mike Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with The Reverend Stephen Gronseth officiating and assisted by The Reverend Charles E. Smith of the Atlantic Baptist Church.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, with the family present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.
Committal services and interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, west of Brayton, Iowa, followed by fellowship and lunch in St. Paul's fellowship hall.
The family is requesting that memorials go to St. Paul's Church Youth Ministry Program or to the fellowship of AA.
Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic is in charge of the arrangements.
