Ruth Rudy

Ruth M. Rudy, 84, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 30, 2007, at her home.

Ruth Mae Rudy was born on September 11, 1922, in Stuart, Iowa, the daughter of Dayton Earl and Mabel (Jones) Johnston.

She had lived in Stuart, Anita, and Lorah, Iowa, before moving to Atlantic in the early 1950s.

Ruth attended various country schools near the towns of her residence.

On February 23, 1941, Ruth married Russell C. Rudy, Sr. in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

She worked at the Heritage House in Atlantic for 25 years, and prior to that at the former Berry Nursing Home, and the former Spot and "You U Rite" Restaurants. Besides her other employment, Ruth worked on the farm with Russell and enjoyed milking the cows. In her free time, Ruth enjoyed doing ceramics.

She was known for her cooking and baking and sold pies to many area restaurants.

Ruth was a member of the Farm Bureau, several neighborhood clubs, and has attended the United Church of Christ in Atlantic.

She is survived by her four sons, Russell Rudy and his wife, Pamela of Walnut, Iowa, Royce Rudy and his wife, Beverly of Atlantic, Iowa, Roger Rudy and his wife, Sue of Atlantic, Iowa, and Randall Rudy and his wife, Jeannie of Anita, Iowa; her daughter, Rhonda Gallagher and her husband, Tom of Walnut, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Chuck Rudy and his wife, Jill of Atlantic, Iowa, Eric Rudy of Coon Rapids, Iowa, Shannon Rudy of Des Moines, Iowa, Kristi Rudy of Atlantic, Iowa, Jason Rudy of Des Moines, Iowa, Tony Rudy of Persia, Iowa, Ryan Gallagher of Churchville, Iowa; Katie Rudy and her friend Robin of Johnston, Iowa, Kyle Rudy of Waterloo, Iowa, Killie Gallagher of Walnut, Iowa; one great-granddaughter, Haley Jo Lockard of Atlantic, Iowa; two great-grandsons, Wyatt Rudy of Casey, Iowa and Colton Rudy of Atlantic, Iowa; two step-granddaughters, Brianne Simons of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Alicia Simons of Shenandoah, Iowa; her sister, Helen Tam of Panora, Iowa; a brother, Kenneth Johnston and his wife, Jean of Nashua, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Ruby Beckman of Atlantic, Iowa.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Dayton and Mabel Johnston; her husband, Russell C. Rudy, Sr.; as well as several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2007, in the chapel at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.

Public visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, with the family present from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hockenberrys.

Committal services and interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery, followed by a fellowship and luncheon in the Community Room at Hockenberrys.
