Ruth Wedemeyer

Ruth E. Wedemeyer, 91, of Anita, Iowa, and formerly of Adair, Iowa, passed away Thursday, September, 3, 2015, at Caring Acres in Anita.

Ruth Elizabeth Wedemeyer was born December 3, 1923, in rural Earlham, Iowa, to Adolph and Ida (Scar) Jobst. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter, Iowa. Having spent her entire childhood in Madison County, Iowa, she graduated from Earlham High School in 1941.

On May 8, 1949, she married Marvin Wedemeyer at Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter. After spending over 61 years of marriage together, Marvin passed away on March 11, 2011. During their marriage, Marvin and Ruth farmed northwest of Adair. She was a longtime member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and was the organist there for 30 years. She played for countless weddings and funerals and was a member of the Lutheran Women Missionary League.

Ruth enjoyed many crafts, ceramics, sewing, needlework, gardening, canning and preserving.

She moved to Caring Acres to be close to Marvin. Her wit and orneriness was enjoyed by many residents and caretakers.

Preceding Ruth in death were her husband, Marvin; parents, Adolph and Ida Jobst; parents-in-law, Charles and Elizabeth (Faga) Wedemeyer; brother, Carl and sister-in-law, Ruth (Mueller) Jobst; sister, Ilah and brother-in-law, Dale Mueller; brother-in-law, Walt Gettler; and nephew, Dennis Gettler.

Surviving Ruth is her sister-in-law, Elaine Gettler of Adair, IA; and her nieces and nephews, Paul Jobst of Greenfield, IA, Nancy (Phil) Simonson of Fairbault, MN, Roy (Mary) Jobst of Earlham, IA, Lyle Jobst of Ankeny, IA, Ray (Candy) Jobst of Macungle, PA, Karen (Jim) Grant of Anita, IA, Duane (Mary) Gettler of Adair, IA, Don (Derinda) Gettler of Casey, IA, Delmar (Marie) Gettler of Casey, IA, Dean (Sharon) Gettler of Emerson, IA, Daryl (Sherry) Gettler of Adair, IA, and Dave (Kristen) Gettler of Adair, IA; and many other family and friends.

Visitation with family will be from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. with a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Adair, Iowa.

Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Adair.

Friends are invited to a lunch and time of fellowship back at the church following the committal service.
