Sandra Sue (Fox) Garside was born April 5, 1942, at the Adair Hospital, to Vern and Hazel (Duff) Fox and passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.
Sandra was raised on the family farm southeast of Adair. She and her brother, Roger, spent many playful years on the farm fishing and learning to drive tractors.
During high school she and her girlfriends would spend the night together once a week having a splendid time. Sandra graduated from Adair High School in 1960.
She married Lyle Garside June 7, 1964, and was married for 26 ½ years, living near, or in, Adair the entire time. She worked at the Exchange State Bank in Adair, was a flower shop owner, and drove a school bus. These jobs allowed her to be near her three children. As her children grew older, she drove a Greyhound bus, worked in the Greyhound office, and had a variety of other jobs to keep her busy.
Sandra was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church in Adair where she was baptized when she was four years old. She held several church offices, taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the church women's auxiliary. She was also a 4-H leader for her children.
The great loves in her life were traveling and fishing. As Sandra grew older, her grandchildren were a great source of joy for her and she spent as much time with them as she was able to.
Sandra appreciated all the cards, flowers and visits she received since the onset of her illness and while she was in the hospital. It was the highlight of her last days.
She was preceded in death by her father, Vern Fox; her grandparents; and one great-nephew.
