Sharlene Marie Baier was born May 23, 1936, the daughter of Harold William and Agnes Catherine (Welsch) Baier in Adair County, Iowa, and passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Colonial Manor in Anita.
Sharlene lived in Cass County her entire life and attended Jackson Township School. On October 5, 1951, she married Cleo Wayne Burmeister at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Massena, Iowa.
She was employed at Colonial Manor in the dietary and laundry departments as well as being a nurses' aide. She also owned and operated the Hole in the Wall Tavern in Anita.
Sharlene will be remembered as a kind, loving person. She gave to others even when she had nothing to give. Sharlene was committed to caring for family and friends, concerned about others, even as her own health was declining. Her door was always open to anyone needing a place to stay. Sharlene touched the lives of many young children as their adoptive Grandma. She loved country music and was a regular at the Oak Tree Opry in Anita.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anita and she was in the Altar and Rosary Society. Sharlene was also a member of the Anita American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her children, Gina (John) O'Brien of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Kelly Burmeister and Shawna (Jeff Bohnsack) Burmeister all of Anita, Iowa; her grandchildren, Alysun O'Brien of Norwalk, Iowa, Sean O'Brien of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Bradyn Burmeister-Bohnsack of Anita, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Sharlene was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Agnes Baier, her husband, Cleo Wayne Burmeister; her son, Gary Burmeister; her step-father, Leland "Tubby" Morgan; her sisters-in-law and their husbands, Lucille and Donald Eden, Leola and Lawrence Query, and Lorna and Tom Daugherty; and the deceased members of the Welsch and Baier families.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anita, Iowa.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 21, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita, Iowa.
Burial of cremated remains will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita following the service.
In lieu of flowers, Sharlene had requested memorials to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anita.
Hockenberry Family Care in Anita is in charge of arrangements.
