SHARON MARY COLLINS
Sharon Mary Collins, 64, of Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of Burr Ridge, Illinois, and Walnut, Iowa, passed away after a brave battle with cancer on the morning of July 28, 2006.
Sharon was born July 30, 1941, a mile and half south of Walnut, Iowa, to Vernon and Leona (Harmsen) Petersen. After graduating High School, she moved to Omaha and then to Chicago to pursue a job with Northcentral Airlines. On November 26th, 1961, Sharon married Mark Lorne Collins of Ohio, in Lyman, Iowa. They lived in Chicago and its suburbs until retiring to Las Vegas in 1997.
Sharon had recently taken an interest in silver jewelry making, as her father had done in his retirement. She walked her dog, Homer, daily and enjoyed outings with neighbors. Sharon enjoyed seeing her grandsons whenever she could and always kept her family close at heart.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 44 years, Mark of Las Vegas, Nevada; one son, Todd of Westmont, Illinois; one daughter, Mary (Jonathan) Harris of Lemont, Illinois; two grandsons, Alexander and William Harris; her mother, Leona Petersen of Avoca, Iowa; one sister, Karen (Ronald) Klusaw of Beaver Lake, Nebraska; three brothers, Darrel (Diana) Petersen of Omaha, Nebraska; Gene (Judeen) Petersen of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Gail (Arlene) Petersen of New Lenox, Illinois as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 12, 2006 in the chapel at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa with Dale Sunderman officiating. Following the service, fellowship and lunch will be held in the Community Room at Hockenberrys.
Sharon's ashes will be laid to rest in Layton Township Cemetery in Walnut, Iowa, following the luncheon.
