Sherry Wiges

Sherry Glee Wiges, 79, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at her home in Atlantic.


She was born March 23, 1935, to Doyle and Anna (Stewart) Cooper in Mason Township, Taylor County, Iowa. Sherry was raised in New Market, Iowa, and attended and graduated from the New Market High School. She lived in Clarinda, Iowa, and Elk Horn, Iowa, before settling in Atlantic, Iowa.

Sherry was employed in the past as a nurse at the Iowa State Hospital in Clarinda and as a clerk at Singer Sewing Machine in Atlantic. She had great joy over the last twenty-three years being a business patron of and partner at The Village Blacksmith Mall in Walnut, Iowa.

She is survived by her significant other, Elimar Sudmann; her three sons, Steve Hoyt of Elk Horn, IA, Kenny Hoyt of Atlantic, IA, and Brian (Judy) Hoyt of Council Bluffs, IA; her two daughters, Cathy Hoyt of Atlantic, IA and Tonja Hettinger of Little Rock, AR; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Lorraine (James) Copp of Clarinda, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Doyle and Anna Cooper, and her husband, Don Wiges.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Unity Hospice in Atlantic, Iowa, the American Cancer Society or to the family to be designated at a later date.

Visitation with family will be from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., on Friday, July 11, 2014, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2014, also at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.

A private family burial will be held in the Clay Township Cemetery.
