Shirley Ann Schlater

Shirley Ann Schlater, the daughter of George Henry and Margery (Artist) Wahlert, was born March 20, 1935, in Greeley Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died November 5, 2018, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 83 years, 7 months, and 15 days.
Shirley was baptized at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended rural school, Greely #7 in Audubon County and graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1953.
On October 11, 1953, she was united in marriage to Darwin G. Schlater at the Exira Christian Church. They were blessed with three children Connie, Mitchell, and Diane. Shirley spent her time as a homemaker and seamstress while raising the kids. She started at the Exchange State Bank in Exira in 1970 and worked there until her retirement in March of 2003. During her retirement she worked part time at the Exira Public Library.
Shirley was a member of the Exira Christian Church. She was involved in Cub Scouts and Bluebirds when the children were young. Shirley enjoyed visiting with relatives, family and friends. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
Preceding her in death was her husband Darwin G. Schlater; her grandson Matthew G. Bevil; her great granddaughter Grace Elizabeth Schlater; her parents; her sister Mary Lomeland; her mother-in-law and father-in-law Grover and Allene Schlater; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Kenny Jessen, Ron Schlater, Barb Schlater.
Survivors include her children: Connie Bevil of Tempe, Arizona, Mitch and wife Becky Schlater of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Diane Schlater of Carroll, Iowa; her grandchildren: Alex Bevil of Springdale, Arkansas, Rebecca Gibbons of Van Buren, Arkansas, Joshua and wife Andrea Bevil of Mesa, Arizona, Mike Furfaro of Tempe, Arizona, Skyler Schlater and wife Jodie of Omaha, Nebraska, Emily Schlater, Molly and husband Jacob Setran, Abigail Schlater, Christian Schlater all of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Jacob and wife Elisabeth Schlater of Warner Robins, Georgia; 11 great grandchildren; her sister, Ruth Jessen of Cushing, Minnesota; her brother, Robert and wife Raydell Wahlert of Walford, Iowa; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Darrell Schlater of Exira, Iowa, Barb and husband Doug Schwaller of Atlantic, Iowa, Julie Schlater of Boone, Iowa, Bob Lomeland of Vinton, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Christian in Church in Exira with Pastor Glen Meyers officiating. There will be a viewing and vitiation Friday, November 16, 2018, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.
