Shirley Murphy, age. 88 of Greenfield, and a former Cass and Adair County resident, died on Monday, November 21, 2022, at Greenfield Rehab Center in Greenfield, IA. She worked for over 24 years at the Adair Nursing home as a Nurse Aide in Adair, IA.
Shirley Murphy, born in Ft. Crook, Nebraska, to Ms. Elizabeth Curtis, she joined 5 sisters, Ilah, Mona, Ruth, Fran, Helen. Places of employment were Lake City Diner (where she met her love of her life, Jerry), Kitty Clover, Drews Chocolate, Adair Motel, Garst Seed Co., 4Sons, & lastly 24 years at Adair Nursing Home.
She married Jerome P Murphy at St. Francis in Rockwell City, IA in a double ceremony with Felicia Murphy. Four children were born of this marriage: Pat, Cathy, Mike, Colleen. They lived in Dexter, starting farming in Stuart, IA, later making their home in Adair, IA. Shirley always had a huge garden, with strawberry, raspberry, & asparagus patches, with Jerry being a butcher, always had plenty of homegrown food. Her livestock was her sheep, many lambs were warmed by the kitchen stove. She was very knowledgeable about all sports & politics. Her pastime was movies, in her picture she’s holding a picture of Clark Gable, not Jerry!! She loved flowers and trees so plant one in memory of her
