Shirley A. Pollock, 75, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Shirley Ann Pollock was born August 13, 1931, in Anita, Iowa, the daughter of Felix Howard and Anna Marie (Christensen) Scott.
She was raised in Anita and was a 1949 Anita High School Graduate.
On August 25, 1949, Shirley married John Pollock in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
The family farmed east and south of Anita and then moved into the town of Anita.
John started working for the Atlantic Municipal Utilities and they moved to Atlantic in 1960.
Shirley worked for the former Swanson's Grocery Store in Atlantic for several years.
She was baptized in the Central Church of Christ in Anita and was a member of the KJU Club.
Shirley was known for helping neighbors, friends, and family that were in need. She enjoyed cross-stitching, sewing, plastic canvas work, quilting, gardening and yard work, as well as many other crafts. She was a great cook and always had the coffee pot on for whoever would stop in. However, her main love and interest were in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, John Pollock of Atlantic, Iowa; her son, Randy Pollock and his wife, Elizabeth of Anita, Iowa; her daughter, Kathy Lehman and her husband, Don of Anita, Iowa; four grandchildren, Suzann Raveling and her husband, Robert of Templeton, Iowa; Jim Pollock and his friend, Tosha of Anita, Iowa, John Pollock of Anita, Iowa, and JoBeth LaFoy and her husband, Dennis of Audubon, Iowa; five great-grandchildren, Shawnell Rush, Randi, and Erykha Raveling, and Christian LaFoy.
Shirley is also survived by her special aunts, Anita Stephenson of Atlantic, Iowa, Eunice Dreyer of Winterset, Iowa, and Virginia Christensen of Des Moines, Iowa.
Shirley was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard LeRoy Scott; her parents, Felix and Anna Scott; her parents-in-law, Rowley and Ida Pollock.
Following cremation, a graveside memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 4, 2007, at the Evergreen Cemetery, Anita, Iowa, with the Reverend Annette K. Ruhs Kruse of the Anita United Methodist Church officiating. Fellowship and lunch will be held in the Anita American Legion Hall following the service.
No visitation is scheduled.
