Shirley Rush

Shirley C. Rush, 68, of Tabor, Iowa, and formerly of Atlantic, Iowa, died Thursday, May 19, 2016, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Shirley was born February 5, 1948, in Marne, Iowa, to Duane and Marjorie (Woods) Hughes. She grew up in the Atlantic area and graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1966. She married Harold Rush December 10, 1966, in Lewis, IA. They lived in the Atlantic area until the mid-1990s when they moved to Tabor, Iowa.

She spent her adult life as a farmwife, homemaker, and mom raising her four sons. She was ecstatic when the boys married because she then had daughters in the family. Shirley enjoyed working with the children at church school and with the elderly at nursing homes. She took pleasure in sharing joy with people.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Harold Rush of Tabor, IA; sons, Curtis (Cindy) Rush of Wiota, IA, Corey (Holly) Rush of Omaha, NE, Cyle (Rory) Rush of Omaha, NE and Christopher (Kylyn) Rush of Tabor, IA; six grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 1 step-great-grandson; a brother, Jim (Betty) Hughes of Gravity, IA; and a sister, Teresa (Larry) Biddenback of Bedford, IA.

Visitation with family will be from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service starting at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.

Burial will be in the Layton Township Cemetery in Walnut, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family's wishes is preferred.
